Customised Craft Tours

Explore the world of craft art and design in and around Cape Town with a specialist who has worked in the sector for more than 25 years. Let me walk you through the ins and outs of the local industry and then place it in the national context. According to your interests, I will plan a customised tour lasting a half day, full day or longer.

This can include:

1. Meeting craft artists and designers in their studios and creative spaces. Listen to them while they work and explain their processes and inspiration.
2. ‘Making’ experiences – Join a craft artist in their studio and try your hand at creating something from scratch or learn how to finish a piece using a specific technique. You can clad the wire frame of a gecko with telephone wire or paint a piece of ceramic before it is fired. There are all sorts of possibilities depending on where your interest lies. Take your creation home with you (with the exception of ceramics which will require firing before collection)
3. Shopping for craft and design items – plan a curated shopping experience which can include beautiful one-off pieces, from collections in hidden gem galleries and studio spaces, to more affordable handmade items from established studio workshops which are well designed and of good quality.
4. Explore any area of arts, design and culture on a tour tailor made for you, interactive, informative and meeting the people behind the stories.
